SUSTAINABILITY MASTER PLANNING (SDIA)
Situation
The airport's guiding vision is to "Master the Art of Airports". As a result of Sustainability Master Planning activities and materiality exploration, water stewardship was identified as imperative to sustained growth. Reliability of supply, projected rate increases, and water use feasibility data were driving forces for change.
TASK
Set vision, goals, and implementation steps to become a world-class steward of water resources and operate in harmony with the natural water cycle of the San Diego Bay region.
Align implementation with 2035 Master Plan schedule
Eliminate potable water use for non-potable processes
Achieve zero stormwater discharge
Increase resiliency of facilities to 100-year storm events
Collaborate with various departments & staff to generate consensus, alignment, engagement, activism and uncover value

UPENN & US ARMY RESERVES
Situation
By default, waste is the byproduct of more valued actions. The USARC has revolving guards and UPENN has a large ecosystem so managing waste was a challenge for both.
TASK
Gemba Inspections - Deeply understand the current state by auditing, interviewing, and observing.
Engage key stakeholders (e.g., facilities, IT, procurement, Dining) to show whole-system and identify improvement
Develop a Communication & Engagement Plan Increase resiliency of facilities to 100-year storm events
